Firstly as a really good opportunity to moan/share my experiences of my new situation but also to secondly hopefully help someone else in a similar situation. For all my faults I can actually cook, so hopefully some of my ideas for foods will help others.

So about a week ago, I received a set of intolerance tests back... turns out my diet is now hideously limited. Basically everything I love, and used to eat – HAS TO GO!

No More:

Eggs
Dairy
Beef
Pork
Yeast (which means no more wine!)
Cashew Nuts
Blackcurrant
Ginger

Bit more obscurely for me, came back the results of not being able to eat Tuna, Millet or Kidney beans – I hate them all, so not a biggy.

Those items I can kinda eat (my amber foods), are Vanilla, Chilli, Almonds and Brazil Nuts..

Oh I’m also allergic to the onion family, so no onion, garlic, leaks or chives – yep there really is not much that I can eat!

The initial shock was the fact that if you cant have yeast, you cant have alcohol, at first I thought it may be possible to have the odd G&T or a Vodka and Coke, no such luck within 10 minutes my arms go bright red and I’m blotchy – damm.

The second biggest shock was no more mayonnaise or salad dressings, and I cant stand things like hummus – so for the past week I have lived on prawns, avocados, chicken and rice – dull to say the least.

So today is the last day of week one, and I have caved into a small glass of wine, my god its delicious – but the itching has returned almost immediately... has that stopped me drinking the rest of the wine (not a chance) this might be my last glass – we shall have to wait and see.

 Comments

Test Results

last week I had my results, it was quite a shock. I had a feeling that dairy would come up as a problem food, but the rest was a complete shock. Yeast and Eggs really made me feel horrible. No more Eggs on Toast, no more champagne, no more wine... then things like Pork – no more bacon sandwiches, it was like “oh my god I am being forced to be a vegan”

it felt horrible (and still does a week on, and people keep saying its great that I know, which it is sometimes I agree, other times I just want to bop them round the head)

The first couple of hours I thought it would be fine, then I realized that I could no longer have mayo, Fruit and Nut Chocolate and that good old yeast was even in balsamic vinegar - how can you eat salad without balsamic vinegar - if your me, not very easily it has to be said…

In fairness I spent the day feeling very very sorry for myself and telling myself my world was over, and ploughed myself into wine and cheese.

Yummy

Next day not so good, shattered, spent the day practically like a zombie... which reminded me why I had, had the test in the first place.

I didn't like going out with my friends, to suddenly find I felt like I was paralytic through booze! And having to be carried out of a pub, trying to convince people I was not drunk!

I didn’t like vomiting in the morning, or having to jump of a tube train to go to the loo.

And the two things that I hated the most was the fact I had put on two stone over a year, and that I fell asleep (well when I say asleep - it was more a coma state at 8pm most evenings)

Next week for me is all about learning about different things I can eat, have tried a lamb mince thing today which is nice, so I shall make a section which details recipes I discover and make, so that others can see them too.
